Art
Teacher of the Year
Barbara
Richardson
Sangaree Middle
School, Ladson, SC.
As an
educator, I am deeply devoted to ensuring my
students experience and receive exposure to the
visual arts. The South Carolina Jr. Duck Stamp
program combines my passion for nature and art. I
am astounded at the level of artistic merit that my
middle school students bring forth while working on
their duck stamps. I feel privileged to represent
this outstanding program as their State Teacher of
the Year and I would like to dedicate this honor to
the memory of my wonderful art student and two time
duck stamp award winner, Haley Eller.
I have
been teaching art education for 19 years and
currently teach grades 6 through 8 at Sangaree
Middle School in Berkeley County. Previously, I have
shared my love of art education with students in
grades kindergarten through 12th at
Pinewood Preparatory School, Howe Hall Elementary,
and Sedgefield Intermediate. I have been honored
with the award of Teacher of the Year at Sangaree
Middle School and served as a member of Berkeley
County School District Teacher Forum. I also worked
with children of all ages and adults in my own art
studio, “All About Art”, in Summerville, South
Carolina. I am known locally for my murals which
can found at the South Carolina Aquarium, Charleston
Pediatric Dental Specialist office, Howe Hall AIMS,
and many private residences in our area.
My
husband William and two daughters, Blakely and
Parker who is a current Duck Stamp winner, are very
supportive of my quest and passion for spreading my
love of the visual arts. I enjoy spending time with
my family and my sweet labs, Molly and Cooper,
boating around area rivers and beaches in
Charleston. |
